A Different Type of Valentine’s Day

My husband is in Vancouver working this month (home a couple weekends, but not for Valentines Day). He did send me flowers (well, his assistant sent them and I received the email with the order prior to their arrival, ruining the surprise and getting to see the price tag), but my Valentines Day will be like any other Monday: get the kids up and out, work, take them to basketball practice, make dinner, put them to bed, etc. The good thing is that I am fine with it. I am a romantic, but I am also a realist.

Right now, we are both working hard and the kids, even though they are in elementary school, still need us for most things. I know my husband loves me and I am lucky to have love in my life everyday, not just some made up holiday by greeting card companies. This may sound jaded or even unromantic, and I do love to be wooed (I don’t think I have ever written that word!), but for this year, this is just the way it is. I am thankful that my husband is employed, I am thankful that he calls me every free moment that he is away, and I am thankful for my friend Godiva, who I have a date with tomorrow.

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Jen
