Hosting the Thanksgiving Holiday

Thanksgiving has become the big holiday we host! For years we went back to Chicago, my hometown, but then we realized that we should take advantage of the beautiful California sunshine and host the holiday here instead! Many of our family members fly in, we host the big event with family and friends, and my mom, brother, sister-in-law and niece stay with us. This year, we will be hosting about 40 people!

There are a few things I do to get my house ready without breaking the bank or spending too much time. First, I make sure that all of the bathrooms are clean, have enough toilet paper, and have plenty of hand towels, soap, moisturizer and candles; this goes a long way! You can get these things at Trader Joe’s or any local discount store. I also make sure there are current photos around the house of the family that is going to visiting, and plenty of wine (so many grocery stores have discount rates or you can go to, fresh flowers and candles (supermarkets sell both for affordable prices). Basically, I feel making your home feel welcoming and inviting will go a long way in creating an environment for fun and happy times! Plus, if you try to get things organized at least a week before the actual holiday it will make things easier before the big day.

The most important tip, however, is to HAVE FUN! Energy is contagious and if you are happy and at ease, anyone who steps foot in your house will feel it, too! I am so thankful to be able to provide a home to celebrate with my loved ones.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
