Michelle Rhone-Collins

Michelle Rhone-Collins has over 20 years working in youth and community development. After receiving her BA in Psychology from Duke University and Masters of Education from Teacher’s College Columbia University, she began her career working with homeless and runaway teens at the University Settlement House in NYC’s Lower East Side. Since then, she has designed youth leadership development and college preparation programs, developed progressive arts in education initiatives, directed a residential camp program, owned and operated an arts and environment day camp, developed service learning programs for immigrant youth, led an social justice and community service trip to India, and was the Executive Director of a community center in Beacon, NY. Recognizing the transformative power of nature to inspire, educate, and calm, she has, at every point, integrated comprehensive experiences in nature as and intrinsic part of her programs to reach underserved and disenfranchised communities.

As a mother of two awesome children, Michelle values the discovery and adventurous play that can occur in a beautiful natural setting. As a proponent of peaceful coexistence with each other and our natural surroundings, Michelle believes it is important that the gifts of nature be accessible and affordable for all. And as the Executive Director of CNI, Michelle is a champion for environmental education and recreation being integral to the healthy development of all children, families, communities, and, indeed, the world. In this time fraught with global environmental crises, Michelle feels it is critical to raise a generation that sees themselves as stewards and advocates for our environment.
